Our philosophy is simple--hands-on/brains-on/words-on!
Hands-On: When we are doing our explorations, children get their own set of materials because they have questions that only they can answer while manipulating cool scientific tools such as pipets, magnifying glasses, graduated cylinders, balance scales, and more.
Brains-on: While they are exploring, their brains are in hyper-drive! The brain is always looking for new information (thus a child can never be bored) and while children are exploring the brain is gathering, sorting, and storing all that good information.
Words-on: Now comes the really fun part! Children take all that good information and start sharing it with other children and adults. Whether they are talking, "writing" (We use that term loosely because writing for a 3 year old is much different than writing for a 30 year old.), or drawing pictures of what they saw, they are communicating.
Finally, we always look for ways to take the learning from the table to the real world. For example, after learning about inclined planes (a.k.a. ramps), we talk about the roof of their house, their driveway, or slides at the park; all great examples of inclined planes.
Because learning is a risk taking process, children who are having challenges with their discoveries will get the help they need; whatever that is; to better process all this new information flooding their brain.
